Synthetic Totems

ONGOING BODY OF WORK / INSTALLATIONS / 2023—

Synthetic Totems is an ongoing body of works examining how organic remains, industrial structures, and consumer objects are reassembled into contemporary ritual bodies. Reclaimed animal hides, hair, cables, steel, garments, and sporting components operate not only as materials, but as carriers of memory, labour, and belief. Through suspension, binding, repetition, and spatial transformation, the works construct unstable forms situated between organism, infrastructure, and monument. Rather than returning to a lost idea of nature, Synthetic Totems considers how new forms of animism and ritual emerge from the material conditions of industrial society.
